First Rule Of The Con

Feed the greed!

Click on video to stop!

Since they're giving us nothing for something, Dr. Wallace and Crew think D207 parents greedy, dishonest and easily conned.

Are they right?

  1. They are supremely "greedy": They're already getting at least $19K worth of education (per D-207's published cost-per-student calculation) for approx. $3K/year in D-207 property taxes on that "average" $384K home that D-207 says will pay only an additional $350/year to D-207 if the referendum is approved.

And if those parents have 2 kids in or headed for D-207, that's almost $40K in educational costs for that same $3K/year of taxes and that same $350 of tax increase.

The only thing "dishonest" about this referendum is Wallace's and the Board's lies, half-truths and missing information (e.g., what is the cost of each individual project at each individual school, which would let taxpayers judge for themselves what projects are essential or just amenities), which they are using to "con" the folks who aren't "greedy" but are just ignorant and/or stupid.

I think you've hit the nail on the head.

Many parents only look at their kids education. They only care about what they can get during the 4 years their kids are at D207. And as soon as they can, they're off, leaving the bill for long term residents to pay down.

As to individual projects, Ken Wallace has made it clear he does not intend to develop a written plan before the Referendum. Even if he wins the Referendum, we won't see a "plan" for months, if at all.

Why do it? He'll have the money, and he knows the general public won't remember or care a year from now.

Dr. Wallace and his team are responsible for this "crisis". However, he is not alone. Carla Owen is duplicitous as well. None of this would be happening had she displayed a modicum of leadership. The other Board Members would have followed had she demanded, for the public good, a "we pay as we go" maintenance and building modification policy.

    She needs to resign!

Further, Ken Wallace's withholding of $45 million while D207's long known asbestos problem remains an issue, (he's known since 2012), and holding it out as a problem that only a Referendum can fix, is cold, calculating and deplorable at best.

I'm sorry, Ken needs to move on. But he won't. And if Dr. Wallace looses this Referendum, he'll be back in April for another try.

He has another $50k bonus riding on it!
